John M Hale and Mary Archer: What we know 2021

John M Hale was born in 1800, possibly in Sept per 1830 and 1840 census records.

John appears on the 1830 Fayette county TN census, being at least 20 but under 30

He appears on the 1840 Sevier county AR census, being at least 40 but under 50.

Both censuses were enumerated in Sept, implying his age changed in Sept.

Possibly meaning he was 29 in Sept 1830 but 40 years in Sept 1840, making him born in Mid/late Sept 1800.

He was possibly born in Tennessee. Assuming if his family was already familiar with the Archer family, he may be the son of one of the Hales with lived near/migrated with the Archers through Tennessee.

A possible father of John was Luke Hail who lived near the Archers in Knox county TN in the 1790's, migrated to Roane/Bledsoe county area when they did. Or, it's possible he may have only met the Archers when they moved into N Alabama about 1817/8. Or, he and whomever his family was came into Alabama with the Archers.

John was wed to Mary Archer Aug 30, 1825 in Morgan county Alabama.

Mary was born about 1804 in Grainger County TN near Maynardville/Acuff/Powder Springs. Her family and the Bolton family lived along the Hogskin Creek.

She was the dau. of Cornelius Archer and a wife whose name is unknown. Attempts have been made to connect Cornelius to a Sarah McGuire of Bibb county GA which is very odd to me.

From Grainger County, her family moved to Roane/Bledsoe county area about 1805 and after may have moved into N Alabama by 1825 where the Hale/Archer marriage took place.

John M Hale's siblings are still unconfirmed.

Mary Archer's siblings are thought to be:

Spencer, John, possibly a Cornelius Jr, Benj. Philip, James, Dennis, Elizabeth, Susan/Susannah, Isaac P, Nancy. A lot of these moved in AR with Cornelius et al, some even came to Fayette Co TX

There was William Archer and an older John Archer in early TN records that are somehow related and had dealings with the Bolton family.

After the Hale/Archer marriage the families can be found in Fayette County TN records. see 1830 census which shows a number of Hale/Archer allies like Carnes/Scallorn/McClure.

By 1834 the Archers were in Hempstead County AR Territory. (Nancy Archer's marriage to Will Cummins.)

The Hales joined them by 1838 and resided in Sevier county AR. (Sev. Co Tax list)

John "M" Hale is presumed to be John Morgan Hale from his son Rufus choosing that name for his 1st born son Willis Morgan Hale (Willis being Ann Chandler's father, therefore Morgan being Rufus' father). I know some still persist in thinking that John was actually named Willis. Crazy huh?

John most likely died between 1842 and 1846 in Ar.

Mary brought her family down near her brother in law Levi McClure (husband of Eliz. Archer) in 1852 or so. She passed in Aug 1872.

The known children of John and Mary: per 1830 census, 1840 census, 1850 census, 1860 census, death, marriage records, DNA evidence, the works.
