Jan 21, 1891, Stockton. Marguerite’s half sister El Dorado Garrett marries Charles Smith.

About 1895, California. Marguerite’s half sister Laura G. Garrett marries Robert Smith.


1895-1897, Oakland. Mary and Marguerite live at 2006 Everett and later 1910 Everett.


Aug 24, 1899, Aberdeen, Washington. Half sister Ella is wed to Frank Dooling.

June 11, 1900, Fruitvale Precinct 2, Brooklyn Township (part of Oakland), Alameda County, CA. Mary and Marguerite reside on Old County RD, per 1900 census.


Oct 25, 1900, Marin County, CA. Marguerite Mitchell marries Stuart H. Allen.


1901, Oakland, CA. Stuart Allen listed at clerk in city the directory.


1902, Oakland, CA. Stuart Allen listed as a clerk, living at 1133 Filbert, apt 5f.


Marguerite and Stuart divorce around this time.


Dec 25, 1902, Oakland, CA. Marguerite’s half sister Fannie El Dorado Smith dies.


May 2, 1903, Santa Clara, CA. Marguerite marries George A. Gray.

1906, Oakland, CA. A George A Gray is listed as a real estate agent for Laymance Real Estate, and residing at 3919 East 17th in Fruitvale, CA (same address Marguerite sent letters to Texas from.)


Aug 7, 1906, Stockton, CA. Marguerite’s half sister Laura G. Smith marries William Nelson Shannon.


Aug 9, 1907, San Francisco. Marguerite’s half sister Ella files for divorce from Frank Dooling.


Dec 10, 1908, Fruitvale/Oakland, Alameda County, CA. Marguerite’s mother Mary dies.


Dec 12, 1908, Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, CA. Mary E Mitchell is buried.


1909, Oakland, CA. George and Marguerite still reside at 3919 E 17th.


1910, Oakland, CA census. George and Marguerite still live at 3919 E 17th Street, with a boarder named Herman Threlkeld who may have had a relationship with Marguerite’s half sister Ella.


May 9, 1911, Fruitvale/Oakland, CA. Marguerite still lives on east 17th Street address and writes a letter addressed from there to my great grandmother Maud in Dallas.


A. 1912, Oakland, CA. Marguerite E Gray resides at 2171 Telegraph Ave.


B. 1913, Oakland CA. George A Gray lives at 663 15th St.


C. 1913, Oakland CA. Mrs Marguerite E Gray lives at 923 Grove. It would appear that Marguerite and George are separated or divorced by 1912/1913


1915, Oakland, CA. Mrs Marguerite E Gray lives at 923 Grove.


July 12, 1915, Fresno, CA. Marguerite is wed to Richard Joseph Doyle.


1915, Fresno, CA. Richard J Doyle is a police man and resides at 2536 Ventura.


1917 and 1918, Fresno, CA. Richard J Doyle, resides at 419 San Pablo, Occupation: Police man and night watchman.

Oct 9, 1917, per Fresno Morning Republican, Richard is suspended from his patrolman's job for drinking on the job. 


Nov 19, 1919, Alameda County, CA. The birth of Richard and Marguerite son Richard J Doyle, Jr.


Jan 2, 1920, Brooklyn Township, Oakland, CA. Richard, Marguerite and son Richard Jr. reside on E 22nd St. Richard's occupation is boat rigger, working at the docks. **Note: in May of 1920 a San Francisco woman named Margaret Doyle attacked her husband RM Doyle who worked down at the docks like Richard J Doyle did. These folks are different people from ours. RM stood for Robert M Doyle and is on the 1920 census living in San Fran with his wife Margaret.


May 27, 1920 Los Angeles, CA. Marguerite’s half sister Ella is married to Johann “John” Zapf


1922, Oakland voting precinct no 221, Alameda County, CA. Mrs Marguerite E Doyle registers to vote Democratic. She resides at 242 East 14 street, occupation housewife.


Nov 18, 1922, Oakland. Marguerite and Richard separate again.


Nov 25, 1922, Oakland. Marguerite files for divorce on grounds of cruelty.


Dec 13, 1922, Oakland, CA. Marguerite is granted divorce from husband Richard though she will reunite with him later.


Nov 23, 1923, Alameda County, CA. Marguerite’s half sister Annie Thomas Hillman dies.


Dec 10, 1923, Oakland Ca. Marguerite and Richard have their 2nd son George Grafton Doyle, named in honor of Marguerite’s brother in law George Grafton Hillman, husband of the sister she had just lost.


March 7, 1925, San Leandro, CA. Marguerite’s half sister Laura G Shannon dies.


1925 Richard J Doyle Sr is remarried to Marguerite’s niece Olive L Smith at Sacramento (per a marriage record stating that an RJ Doyle wed Olive L Smith, 1925, Sacramento)


Feb 21, 1926, Alameda County, CA. Richard J Doyle Sr and new wife Olive have a son named Hugo Thomas Doyle.


1926, Oakland voting precinct no. 371, Alameda County, CA. Mrs Marguerite E Doyle registered voter, Democratic, residence 2500 34th Ave, occupation housewife.


Dec 1927, Oakland, CA. Marguerite is victim to a purse thief. This makes the papers.

1928, Oakland, CA. Marguerite E Doyle resides at 224 Anthol Ave, occupation seamstress.


July 4, 1929, Oakland CA, Marguerite dies at her home in Oakland. She left behind Richard and George who were taken in by their Aunt Ella of Los Angeles, referred to as Mrs John Zapf in the obituary below.


July 8, 1929, Marguerite’s remains were cremated.
